If you see this guy, wish him a happy birthday and know that I am wildly jealous not to be there celebrating. (Well, until it’s 10pm, then I’m less jealous and just going to bed.)Chris, you are just the loveliest, kindest, and truly funniest person I know. Who doesn’t love a good Schitt’s Creek clip?This popped up in my feed and Moira stopped my scroll. She pretty much sums up why family pictures are important in under seven seconds, with an added bonus tip to always use good lighting. 😉Now, I’m not advocating *naked* family pictures at all, but her point about one day looking at yourself with much kinder eyes, oh, does that hit home! I once refused to be in the family photos one year because I just didn’t love where I was with three little kids and didn’t plan enough time to get my highlights done in time for the session. Oh, how I wish I had jumped in anyway! They thought I hung the moon back then, and even though I adore my big people now, the only way to get back to those completely trusting snuggles and full-body belly laughs now is in photos. When they good looking for pics of us together one day, I might as well have just done it with good lighting! 🌅

Do you like your fireworks photography to feel more “wow” or more “wild”? I am 💯 in the wild camp… I love to use focus pulling - a technique where you rotate the focus ring from out of focus to in focus (or vice versa) while the shutter is open to turn fireworks into a Seuss-like sea creatures. I am lucky enough to live in a town that has an AMAZING show every summer, and I look forward to experimenting each year. These are a few of my favorites - both the traditional “wow, look at that” kind and the wild and wacky. Bananas.Alas, someone rather inconveniently scheduled the French Open semis of Alcaraz v Djokovic at the same time as the ceremony, but some of us made due. 😅
