WHY FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSIONS?
The pictures you love most aren’t really about the pictures; it’s the stories they tell about the people you adore.
Creating timeless photographs requires more than a nice camera and technical expertise. The most valuable skill I can bring to a session is the ability to create an atmosphere of trust, appreciation, and joy during our time together.
What we make together are images that represent your family in an organic and authentic way. Action creates emotion, so I ask my families to walk, run, laugh, and snuggle with each other. During all of this, I look for the moments that reflect your individual personalities and the connections to the people you love most.
It is a joy seeing your family enjoying each other in photographs, just as you are, and you’ll never experience that if you’re always the one behind the camera, managing and directing. Let me take care of it all, and put yourself in the picture, too.
HOW IT WORKS
The process is easy and streamlined from start to finish:

- Receive your mini prep guide email
- Enjoy a fun, 20-minute mini-session
- Select your complimentary image (or more!) from a private online gallery
This is an easy, low-stress way to make a few beautiful photographs while creating memories of a fun afternoon together!

SESSION EXPERIENCE
Before Your Session
I will contact you a few days before our scheduled session to confirm the time and location. If the weather looks less than fabulous or someone is coming down with something less than delightful, please let me know, and we will discuss the options for rescheduling.
Take the time to prepare your family before you are actually on the way to the session location. Often, the discussion of the activity sets the tone. I recommend something like, “I’m so excited to play with you while my fun friend, Katharine, takes photos!” I guarantee things will go more smoothly than if you say, “We just have to get through this dreadful thing, and then I will pay you off with a shocking amount of ice cream.”
As for teenagers, don’t sweat it – I’m living through that times three, and I have an impressive success rate at cracking through that vibe, too.
During Your Session
Please, please be early! It will reduce the stress and tension on the drive over, which is always a good step towards better photos. Multiple mini-sessions are booked in a row, and if you are late, we can only use whatever time we have left.
At the start of the session, take a deep breath and relax. Enjoy this little bit of time together with each other, away from devices and other to-dos, and let me sprinkle a little playful magic to make it fun for everyone – even less-than-initially-enthusiastic kids (or spouses!)
AFTER YOUR SESSION
IMAGE REVEAL & SELECTION
Image Reveal
After your session, the fun continues! Within 14 days of your session, you will receive an email with a link to view your private online image gallery. It will be very tempting to click that button immediately on your phone. Please don’t! I highly recommend you wait until you are home, with a big screen, and preferably with someone with whom to enjoy this moment. Your images of your fantastic family deserve to be seen and appreciated fully!
THE DETAILS
Select Your Collection
Choose from one of the three collections from your image review gallery. Once you have clicked the link to your selected collection (and submitted payment, if applicable), you will be able to download the high-resolution images. Please choose carefully! Due to the nature of digital downloads, images cannot be “exchanged” or “returned.” Be sure to use your print credit in the online store, too!
Your only task is to choose what you like, and if I’m doing my part well, I will make that difficult! I am happy to schedule a Zoom call to discuss your gallery if you would like assistance creating print products, including framed prints or an album, or if you have any other questions.

Print Products
Deciding what to do with all of your gorgeous images is likely the most important decision you will make during the entire process, but so often, it is overlooked or pushed to the bottom of the to-do list… forever.
You invested time and energy to create these memories with your family, so spend a few more moments choosing how you will print and display them in your home. You will be so grateful for the smile they will bring to your face when you walk by them in your home or flip through them in a book with your children, unlike losing them to dusty hard drive storage forever. This is why I include a print credit with most collections.

Mather Homestead
A historical gem in Darien, CT, this unique location features a beautiful formal walled garden, wildflower fields, and a picturesque New England setting that offers stunning, natural backdrops for your family portrait session. Leashed dogs are welcome!

A gorgeous treasure in New Canaan, CT, the park features beautiful rolling lawns and a gorgeous landscape design that offers a wide variety of scenic backdrops for your family portrait session. Leashed dogs are welcome!

Pear Tree Point Beach
Pear Tree Point Beach is a picturesque, family-friendly beach in Darien, CT, featuring two sandy shores at the mouth of the Goodwives River, a raised gazebo, and scenic views boat moorings and the Long Island Sound. Dogs are not allowed at this beach.

Farm Creek Preserve
The Norwalk Land Trust property at Farm Creek forms a 16-acre preserve on the Farm Creek tidal estuary emptying into Long Island Sound. The property offers quiet, peaceful views of Farm Creek and its tidal marshes leading out to Wilson Cove. Leashed dogs are welcome!

Irwin Park
Irwin Park is a 36-acre public park in New Canaan, CT, featuring rolling lawns, an apple orchard, and a 1.2-mile walking trail. The park has an impressive array of specimen trees, and this weekend should be peak fall color in our area. Leashed dogs are welcome!
